The Bike Barn and Security
The Bike Barn provides all weather non-contact
protection to motorcycles
around the world. The original design answered
immediate needs for
customers to keep rain and sun out. The Bike Barn
frame provided
camouflage - out of site out of mind.
However security remained of top concern for customers
in densely
populated urban areas. The basic qualities of
the Bike Barn were
attractive however there was no deterrent from
thieves slashing the
fabric and entering the tent. Some customers requested
primary
deterrents to prevent theft. After investigation
there appeared two main
methods:
Physical security and Electronic security.
Physical security
involved mainly rear wheel lock bars that are
bolted
to the ground with a metal rod through the spoke
wheel. Basically the
motorcycle could not be moved without some cutting
or breaking of parts
during theft attempts.
Daily use of this security system is cumbersome.
Many customers needed
permission, often difficult to get, to drill holes
in concrete to secure
the wheel lock. However the system is generally
accepted to be
effective.
Electronic
security offers less brute force and more
stealth to the
security process. There are many different types
of electronic alarms
but only those that are simple and easy to use
with effective
notification systems are valued by customers.
The Bike Barn has selected a wheel lock product
and we encourage your
feedback. For electronic alarms we looked at several
but found most of
them over priced and not recommended in the dealer
market. The MA-Easy
was an exception to electronic alarms. Installation
by a completely new
user took 15 minutes. User settings were established
in another couple
of minutes and easy to change later on. Feedback
was very positive.
